ASX-listed company Simble Solutions (ASX:SIS) and Wattwatchers focus respective core skills to tackle home and commercial sectors in Australia, UK and beyond

This is the Internet of Things for Energy at work, which is all about being intelligent, flexible, nimble and, above all, a focus on adding value for consumers.”

— Fadi Geha, CEO and Founder, Simble Solutions

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, October 22, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Building on five-plus years of strong collaboration in Australia’s increasingly competitive energy tech marketplace, Simble Solutions Ltd and Wattwatchers Digital Energy have upped the ante with a new targeted partnership announced today at All-Energy Australia.

Wattwatchers will offer their award-winning energy meters together with Simble’s real-time energy management solution to homes and businesses nation-wide, using data and remote control to help consumers save money, reduce consumption and cut carbon pollution.

In the United Kingdom (UK), where 53 million utility smart meters are scheduled to be rolled out by the end of 2024, Simble Solutions has partnered with leading energy service provider Utiligroup to access all energy data via the government-owned Data Communications Company (DCC) to develop the Virtual Analytics App, a consumer-facing energy management application that can be white-labelled for electricity and gas retailers.

This ‘DCC app’ also works with Wattwatchers, independently of utilities and regulated energy markets, with real-time, highly-granular data providing enhanced performance for home and business consumers, readily downloadable to mobile devices.

Under a Reseller Agreement announced at All-Energy Australia today, Simble will be Wattwatchers’ preferred energy management supplier in Australia as well as for its expanding presence in the UK.

In particular, Wattwatchers will own-brand Simble’s native apps – in IoS and Android versions, supported by the SimbleSense cloud platform and virtual analytics capabilities – for consumer-led energy management in homes and small-to-medium sized enterprises (SMEs).

This means that Wattwatchers, which traditionally has focused on devices and data streams for managing and controlling electricity in real-time through the cloud, will now bundle sophisticated end-user interfaces as a seamless extension of its offerings.

Simble, meanwhile, will strategically double-down on its marketing efforts in the high-potential UK marketplace, providing consumer-facing software solutions for utility applications, and also for independent energy IoT devices.

Fadi Geha, Simble Founder and CEO, said the new Reseller Agreement would allow each of the partners to maximise their respective strengths, while avoiding duplication of sales and marketing efforts.

‘For Simble Solutions, it immediately gives us exposure to Wattwatchers’ accelerating growth in the Australian marketplace,’ said Geha.

‘This growth push includes selling direct to communities, consumers and electricians with data-driven energy management solutions targeting homes and small businesses, with Simble apps own-branded for Wattwatchers now being built into multi-year packages that include hardware, installation, communications and software.

‘This is the Internet of Things for Energy at work, which is all about being intelligent, flexible, nimble and, above all, a focus on adding value for consumers.’

Gavin Dietz, CEO and Managing Director of Wattwatchers, said that the preferred partner model underpinning the Reseller Agreement with Simble recognised the rising level of competition in the energy tech space.

‘The logic for Simble and Wattwatchers to work together more closely just became ever more compelling,’ Dietz said. ‘Wattwatchers is strong on the hardware side, and Simble’s greatest strengths have always been its software applications, but consumers just want a one-stop solution that does everything they need.

‘This deeper relationship between Wattwatchers and Simble means that we’ve sorted out the integration issues between us, in the background, and the end consumers just see a full service that supports them to manage electricity better, backed by the power of data, which is what they want.

‘It’s the kind of partnership that everyone wants, one in which everyone can win.’

Simble and Wattwatchers are co-demonstrating their combined solutions at All-Energy Australia this week, October 23 and 24, in the new Energy Efficiency Expo trade show and conference (the Wattwatchers Digital Energy stand is F135).

Cyber and Data Security Experts Debate Increased Concerns in Cyberattacks, Data Breaches and Identity Theft

Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig Collaborates with LMI to Examine Key Policies and Solutions in Cybersecurity

WASHINGTON, DC, UNITED STATES, October 22, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Over 55 experts from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the Department of Defense (DoD), CYBERCOM, Intelligence Community (IC), Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and notable cybersecurity groups came together at LMI’s headquarters to discuss increasing concerns in the realm of cyberattacks, data breaches, and identity theft. This collaborative effort between Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig and LMI focused on key policies and solutions to prevent and mitigate crippling damage to individuals, corporations, and government institutions.

The summit was composed of a variety of panels, with topics from an overview of the National Defense Strategy and supply chain risk management policy to cyber operations perspectives from the DoD, IC, and DHS. The keynote speaker for the event was Glenn Gaffney, the Director of in-Q-Tel Labs and former Director for Science and Technology at the CIA, supported by featured speakers Dana White, Former Assistant to the Secretary of Defense; Col. Gary Corn JAGC, USA Staff Judge Advocate for Commander, CYBERCOM; Karen Britton, Vice President of Digital Services at LMI and former White House CIO; and Daniel Sutherland, Chief Counsel at the Cyber and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).

“We now live in a hyperconnected world where our personal data moves globally and at great speed. Protecting and using that data is a key challenge for all businesses – and the right solution requires a combination of people, skill, and technology,” said David Verhey, Partner, Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig.

The Cyber & Data Security Summit left attendees with a number of key takeaways: namely, that data security and privacy require investment but will increase and improve market share and profitability; that small businesses in the United States are some of the main engines of innovation for the national security base; and, most importantly, that spreadsheets and forms are not the answers to today’s requirements for cybersecurity and data privacy. We must push for automated solutions driven by strategic thinking.

Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig – a law firm with strong focus on national and cybersecurity practice – is excited to have been a part of such thought-provoking discussions among peers. It is their hope that they are able to continue to provide invaluable legal and technical advice to proactively protect our clients from cybersecurity incidents and data breaches and guide them through the complicated process of responding to an incident when it occurs.

U.S. House Passes PACT Act to Make Malicious Animal Cruelty a Felony

Enacting this bill sends a signal that our nation has no tolerance for intentional cruelty toward animals.”

— Holly Gann, director of federal affairs at Animal Wellness Action

WASHINGTON, DC, US, October 22, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture (PACT) Act, H.R. 724, by a voice vote. The measure would establish a federal anti-cruelty statute, filling a hole in our legal framework to protect animals. The legislation has been heavily lobbied and advocated for by members of the Animal Wellness Foundation and Animal Wellness Action team for years. The measure would make it a federal crime to torture an animal “in the special maritime time and territorial jurisdiction of the United States” and in cases where acts of intentional cruelty affect interstate or foreign commerce.

“Most people are shocked to know that the U.S. does not have a federal animal cruelty law,” said Holly Gann, Director of Federal Affairs at Animal Wellness Action and the Animal Wellness Foundation. “Enacting this bill sends a signal that our nation has no tolerance for intentional cruelty toward animals.”

“A society should be judged by how it treats its most vulnerable,” said Drew Edmondson, former Oklahoma Attorney General and co-chair of the Animal Wellness Law Enforcement Council. “Prevention of animal cruelty and torture will help define us as a society and it is altogether fitting that Congress make this a national priority. The PACT Act complements state and territorial anti-cruelty laws, just as the federal government’s ban on staged animal fighting fortifies state-based anti-dogfighting and anti-cockfighting laws."

“Our animal friends and companions do not deserve to be tortured and killed for the amusement of sick and twisted individuals and we support the effort to criminalize these activities,” said Patrick Yoes, National President, Fraternal Order of Police.

"Today’s vote is a significant milestone in the bipartisan quest to end animal abuse and protect our pets,” said U.S. Rep. Ted Deutch. "This bill sends a clear message that our society does not accept cruelty against animals. We’ve received support from so many Americans from across the country and across the political spectrum. Animal rights activists have stood up for living things that do not have a voice. Law enforcement officers have sought a federal overlay to help them stop animal abusers who are likely to commit acts of violence against people. And animal lovers everywhere know this is simply the right thing to do. I’m deeply thankful for all of the advocates who helped us pass this bill, and I look forward to the Senate’s swift passage and the President’s signature.”

“The torture of innocent animals is abhorrent and should be punished to the fullest extent of the law,” said U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan. "Passing the PACT Act sends a strong message that this behavior will not be tolerated. Protecting animals from cruelty is a top priority for me and I will continue to work with Congressman Deutch to get this important bill signed into law.”

The PACT Act, led by U.S. Reps. Ted Deutch (D-FL) and Vern Buchanan (R-FL), would prohibit extreme acts of cruelty when they occur in interstate commerce or on federal property and cracks down on widespread sexual abuse of animals (bestiality). While current federal law bans the sale of videos showing illegal acts of cruelty, it does not prohibit the underlying conduct. Law enforcement agencies across the country, the National Sheriffs’ Association, the Fraternal Order of Police, and the Animal Wellness National Law Enforcement Council, have endorsed the PACT Act because of the well-documented connection between animal cruelty and violence against people, including the distinct correlation between sexual abuse of animals and children.

The Senate companion bill, S. 479, with 38 cosponsors and led by U.S. Sens. Pat Toomey (R-PA) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), previously passed the Senate by unanimous consent in the 114th and 115th Congress. But it was blocked in the House by former House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) despite the overwhelming bipartisan support. The current chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Rep. Jerold Nadler (D-NY), is a cosponsor of the legislation.

Animal Wellness Action and the Animal Wellness Foundation have treated movement of the PACT Act in Congress among its top priorities on Capitol Hill. The bill recently obtained 290 cosponsors in the House, triggering its” placement on the “Consensus Calendar” and expedited action on the House floor. (The House Problems Solvers Caucus negotiated the terms of the provision to allow broadly supported, bipartisan bills a pathway for floor action). The PACT Act is the second animal protection bill to hit the 290 mark this year, and one of only nine in the 116th Congress out of over 4,500 bills that have been introduced.

"Opposition to cruelty to animals is a shared value in our nation,” added Wayne Pacelle, founder of Animal Wellness Action. “By stopping it, we protect innocent animals and we make our communities safer and stronger.” The organizations now urge the U.S. Senate to swiftly bring the bill up for passage to send to the President.

The Animal Wellness Foundation (Foundation) is a Los Angeles-based private charitable organization with a mission of helping animals by making veterinary care available to everyone with a pet, regardless of economic ability. We organize rescue efforts and medical services for dogs and cats in need and help homeless pets find a loving caregiver. We are advocates for getting veterinarians to the front lines of the animal welfare movement; promoting responsible pet ownership; and vaccinating animals against infectious diseases such as distemper. We also support policies that prevent animal cruelty and that alleviate suffering. We believe helping animals helps us all.

Animal Wellness Action (Action) is a Washington, D.C.-based 501(c)(4) organization with a mission of helping animals by promoting legal standards forbidding cruelty. We champion causes that alleviate the suffering of companion animals, farm animals, and wildlife. We advocate for policies to stop dogfighting and cockfighting and other forms of malicious cruelty and to confront factory farming and other systemic forms of animal exploitation. To prevent cruelty, we promote enacting good public policies and we work to enforce those policies. To enact good laws, we must elect good lawmakers, and that’s why we remind voters which candidates care about our issues and which ones don’t. We believe helping animals helps us all.

Tulsa Dental Center Discusses Common Mouth Issues, Offers Comprehensive, Comfortable Treatments

Dry Mouth Can Cause Discomfort, Mouth Guards Can Prevent Problems, and Gum Disease Can Get Weaken Teeth – Thankfully, Tulsa Dental Center Offers Their Expertise

TULSA, OKLAHOMA, UNITED STATES, October 22, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — All of us have mouths, but few of us are experts in their care. That’s why Tulsa Dental Center regularly goes out of its way to inform and educate people about potential mouth problems and ways to avoid them. This time around, they’re talking about Dry Mouth, Mouth Guards, and Gum Disease.

Dry Mouth

One of the common mouth problems people are reporting these days is simple “dry mouth,” also called “xerostomia.” It’s a lack of the natural saliva the mouth normally generates to moisten and cleanse itself, as well as to help prevent infection by controlling oral bacteria and fungi. Saliva is also the first step in our body’s process of digesting food.

When your mouth doesn't make enough saliva, it feels dry, which can be very uncomfortable.

“Dry mouth” can result from many causes, including medications and disease. It is, for example, a known side effect of some 400 common drugs, both prescription and nonprescription. “Dry mouth” can also be caused by medical conditions such as diabetes, anemia, cystic fibrosis, rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension, Parkinson's disease, stroke, and mumps, as well as some others.

Temporary “dry mouth” can result from normal dehydration, perhaps caused by fever, excessive sweating, vomiting, diarrhea, blood loss, or burns.

Smoking or chewing tobacco can also reduce the production of saliva, as can the simple act of breathing through your mouth instead of your nose.

Less common, but not unheard of, is “dry mouth” caused by damage to the salivary glands, which then permanently reduces the amount of saliva in your mouth. Radiation to the head and neck, and chemotherapy treatments for cancer are sometimes responsible for this kind of damage. “Dry mouth” can also result from nerve damage in the head and neck area, due to an injury or needed surgery.

Thankfully, Tulsa Dental Center is expert at the long-term treatment of dry mouth. But they also recommend such simple “home remedy” steps as:

• Sucking on sugar-free candy or chewing sugar-free gum (specifically ones with xylitol).
• Avoiding acidic candies and gums.
• Drinking water frequently.
• Brushing, or rinsing with a fluoride preparation.
• Adding moisture to the air by means of a vaporizer.
• Rinsing with an over-the-counter saliva substitute.

Mouth Guards

Mouth guards are specially-designed protective coverings for your teeth. Different types and styles of mouth guards are intended to protect teeth from sports-related injuries or to prevent “grinding” during sleep. A mouth guard should feel comfortable, last a long time, clean easily, and leave your breathing and speech unrestricted.

Mouth guards are helpful to everyone who participates in a physical activity, not only contact sports like football and boxing, but also “safe” activities like gymnastics or mountain biking. In addition, both adults and children who grind their teeth while sleeping will benefit from a well-fitted mouth guard that prevents tooth damage.

Mass produced mouth guards are relatively inexpensive and minimally adjustable. Available at most sporting goods and department stores, they tend to be bulky, and make breathing or talking somewhat difficult. Tulsa Dental Center considers them to provide very little or no tooth protection.

“Boil and bite” mouth guards are also widely available. Made from a thermoplastic material, they soften in hot water and can then be shaped around the teeth quite easily. This type of mouth guard tends to provide a better fit and thus more tooth protection.

The best mouth guards are custom-fitted by your dentist, based on the actual sizes, shapes, and placement of your teeth. Because they conform so closely to the contours of your teeth, these custom-fitted mouth guards provide far more comfort and protection than cheaper options.

Gum Disease

Periodontal Disease, more commonly called “Gum Disease,” is often preceded by inflammation of the gums, which results from bacterial growth in the mouth. This inflammation can then progress to Periodontitis. If not promptly and properly treated, “gum disease” can lead to destruction of the tissue that surrounds your teeth and ultimately the loss of those teeth.

Early warning signs of “gum disease” include the build-up of plaque, inflammation of the gums, and bleeding every time you brush your teeth.

Plaque is the primary cause of gum disease. However, other factors can contribute to its progress. These include:

• Hormonal changes and a family history of dental disease.
• Illnesses that interfere with your immune system, as well as diabetes.
• Medications the reduce the flow of saliva or that cause abnormal gum tissue growth.
• Smoking, or not brushing and flossing each day.

Gum disease doesn’t always cause pain, and may not be obvious, even in its later stages. Although the symptoms of this periodontal disease are often subtle, the condition is not entirely without warning signs. Specific symptoms may point to the onset and progress of the disease. Symptoms of gum disease to watch for include:

• Bleeding, red, swollen, tender or receding gums.
• Persistent bad breath or a bad taste.
• Deep “pockets” between teeth and gums.
• Loose or shifting teeth.
• Changes in the bite, or the way upper and lower teeth fit together.

These symptoms are worth looking for, because “gum disease” is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults.

Tulsa Dental Center is expert at fighting “gum disease,” by helpful methods that tend to promote the reattachment of healthy gums to teeth, reduce the swelling, ameliorate the gum pockets, and reduce the overall risk of infection. All these treatments help to stop the progression of “gum disease” before you begin to lose teeth.

Specific treatment options depend on your overall health, how long you have been suffering from “gum disease,” and how you may have responded to earlier treatment. Options range from nonsurgical therapies that control bacterial growth to surgery that restores your teeth’s supportive tissues. You can learn more about the various treatment options by talking to the experts at Tulsa Dental Center.

A Better Number Bed at A Better Price

Fall 2019 High Point Furniture Market Access CEO’s awarded the x10 number bed the coveted status as the “Worlds’ Best Adjustable Bed” for 2019

While other companies are cutting corners, we continue to enhance and advance the x10 model to continue our pursuit of having the very best bed in America.”

— Don DePaulis

WINTER PARK, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES, October 22, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Today during the Fall 2019 High Point Furniture Market, Access CEO's awarded the x10 number bed the coveted status as the “Worlds’ Best Adjustable Bed” for 2019, the second consecutive year. The x10 was crafted by the Titan’s of Number Beds and launched in December 2017 by Dan Wall, the inventor of the original Flex Head design and Craig Miller, creator of the original number bed.

The x10 is often compared to the Sleep Number i10 and while both models provide sleepers with unique customization and personalization over time only the x10 offers a medical grade urethane chamber backed by SizeWise, a leading supplier of hospital beds and equipment, with both Flex Head and Flex Foot design. All other number beds require two separate twins pushed together to have Flex Foot in King size. With separate twins pushed together couples can no longer cuddle due to the split down the center of the entire mattress.

The x10 uses a medically recognized monitoring scale to measure pressure and that system works in any position, not only when the bed is flat. The x10 was customized exclusively for Relax In Comfort. based out of Winter Park, Florida with over 52 years of experience in the specialty adjustable bed industry. President & CEO Don DePaulis recently stated “We are very proud of our partnership with American National Manufacturing and our collaborative effort to continue to perfect the x10 component-based design resulting in the best bed for the most discerning consumers”

“While other companies are cutting corners, we continue to enhance and advance the x10 model to continue our pursuit of having the very best bed in America.” Depaulis continued. With the x10 number bed you no longer have to be worried about your mattress becoming too soft or too firm or having to compromise your comfort due to the needs of your sleep partner.

The x10 number bed is truly the last bed a consumer will ever need to buy due to the fully modular design. By designing the modular mattress, any component can be refreshed or renewed at any time, for a nominal cost under the 25 year limited warranty coverage.

(The South East Region is comprised of AL, TN, MS, GA, FL, KY.)

About the Competition: This was the first year advertising agencies were invited to submit case studies for the user’s conference. The goal was to provide case studies that were educational, informative, and well-rounded.

AUSTIN, TEXAS, UNITED STATES, October 22, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — An historic oil on canvas painting by the renowned Texas artist Porfirio Salinas (1910-1973), created to be presented to President John F. Kennedy at Vice President Lyndon Johnson’s ranch on Nov. 23, 1963 – the day after JFK’s assassination – is the headliner lot in an auction planned for November 16th and 17th by Austin Auction Gallery, online and in the gallery.

The auction date is close to the 56th anniversary of the Kennedy assassination – November 22nd, 1963. The painting is not only a work of art by an accomplished Texas painter, it is an historic artifact with connections to two former U.S. Presidents and one of the most seminal dates in U.S. history. Porfirio Salinas, incidentally, was Lyndon Johnson’s favorite artist and a personal friend. He hung canvases by Salinas at his Texas ranch and even in his private suite at the White House.

Kennedy was scheduled to visit the LBJ ranch on the evening of November 22nd, following a planned fundraising dinner in Austin. It was at the ranch that Salinas had intended to personally present the painting to Kennedy as a gift, at a barbecue event the next day. The painting still has the original plaque stating it was a present from Salinas. A second, later plaque reflects on the assassination.

The painting, a landscape titled Rocky Creek, is signed lower left and measures 20 inches by 25 inches (sight). The overall size, with the frame, is 29 ¼ inches by 33 ½ inches. It has a pre-sale estimate of $75,000-$125,000. A second work by Salinas, a signed, framed oil on canvas titled Bluebonnets and Live Oaks, 29 ¼ inches by 35 ½ inches (sight), should bring $30,000-$40,000.

Porfirio Salinas was a landscape artist recognized for his depictions of the Texas Hill Country in springtime. He was one of the first Mexican American artists to become nationally recognized for his paintings. Works by him are displayed in the Texas State Capitol, the Texas Governor’s Mansion, the Witte Museum in San Antonio and the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum.

The Salinas paintings are part of a fabulous art collection that will also come up for bid, featuring original artworks by noted, listed painters such as G. Harvey, A.D. Greer, Robert Wood, Gerald McCann, Robert Harrison, Peter Hohnstedt, Carl Smith, C.P. Montague and Joe Rader Roberts.

A few expected top achievers in the original artwork category include the following paintings:

• A framed oil on canvas painting by Texas artist G. Harvey (1933-2017), titled Stray Heifers, signed at Austin and dated 1969 lower left, with the tags of G. Harvey Gallery on verso and measuring 20 inches by 24 inches (sight) (est. $15,000-$20,000).
• A framed oil on canvas by the famous French artist Edouard Cortes (1882-1969), titled Louvre Seine Quai, signed lower right and verified as authentic with registration number 36374 by the archives of Arnot Galleries in New York City, measuring 13 inches by 18 inches (est. $12,000-$18,000).
• A framed oil on canvas by Peter Hohnstedt (Texas/Ohio, 1871/72-1957), titled Texas Hill Country, signed lower left and with the label of Milam Galleries in San Antonio on verso, measuring approximately 29 inches by 35 inches (less the frame) (est. $4,000-$6,000).

Co-headlining the auction will be items from the estate of Alfred A. King (1916-2006), the great-grandson of Captain Richard King, founder of the now-825,000-acre Texas King Ranch. The estate features a fantastic collection of Native American and Southwestern jewelry, including pieces by Frank Patania, Sr. (Italian-American, 1899-1964), and an equally incredible collection of sterling silver and New Mexico art, including works by Theodore Van Soelen, Freemont Ellis, Bernique Longley, Agnes Sims, Miki Hayakawa, Cliff Bahnimptewa and Norma Bassett Hall.

Native American jewelry will feature a Modernist silver ring with multi-stone inlays by Charles Loloma (Hopi, 1921-1991), with a shaped silver frame having coral, lapis and other inlays with silver and yellow gold spacers, marked to the interior (est. $1,000-$2,000); and a silver stamped bracelet bearing a picto-hallmark for Frank Vacit (Zuni, 1915-1999), the Rainbow God, in turquoise and jet channel inlay, on a large circular bezel with a stamped cuff (est. $800-$1,200).

Also offered will be a Modernist gold-plated bronze over wire sculptural pendant, untitled, hand-signed on the tag “Lassaw” (Ibram Lasaw, 1913-2003), hung from a 16-inch-long gilt wire necklace (est. $1,000-$3,000); and a Native American carved shell figure by Leo Poblano (Zuni, 1905-1959), made circa 1928, depicting a robed Native American dancer with turquoise earrings and a necklace, with raised lace, about 3 ½ inches by 2 ¼ inches (est. $400-$600).

The pieces by Frank Vacit and Leo Poblano were purchased at the Sotheby’s auction of the C G Wallace collection. Wallace was an important figure in Native American jewelry as he worked in the early 20th century with the Zuni Pueblo jewelry makers to refine their production for sale to the new tourist flow coming to the West and Southwest. In 1975 a portion of his collection was transferred to the Heard Museum in Phoenix. The balance was sold at auction through Sotheby’s.

The wonderful jewelry creations of Frank Patania, Sr. will feature a Modernist sterling silver necklace, hallmarked, with graduated alternating scrolls and drops with serrated bezel-set turquoise stones (est. $4,000-$6,000); and a Modernist sterling silver jewelry suite, all hallmarked sterling, comprising a necklace with staggered lapis lazuli drops, tube beads, a hook closure and screw-back earrings with lapis lazuli drops (est. $3,000-$4,000).

Austin Auction Gallery is located at 8414 Anderson Mill Road. Start times are 10 am Central time both days. Inspections will be held Nov. 14-15, from 10-5, and on both sale days at 8 am.

New contract awarded to supply every school and college in England with free period products

The DfE has confirmed its pledge to bring free period products for all schools in England. The contract for the supply of these products has now been awarded.

Period products are a necessity, not a luxury, and this is why access to free products at school and college for all pupils is a significant achievement.”

— David Taylor-Smith

UNITED KINGDOM, October 22, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — The contract for the supply of free period products to every school and college in England has been awarded in a bid to create period equality for all.

Free period products, supplied by washroom and hygiene services firm phs Group, will now be available to every pupil in England as part of the Department for Education’s plans to create period equality for all. The Government is funding the initiative which will provide free products for young people across secondary schools, primary schools and colleges in England.

The contract for the supply of the products to more than 20,000 schools was awarded to phs Direct after a competitive tender process. phs Direct is part of phs Group and supplies thousands of customers with a wide range of washroom consumables and products ranging from cleaning materials and paper products to hand dryers.

Preparations are now underway for the implementation of Department for Education’s period products scheme which will be rolled out early next year. The Department for Education will publish guidance later this year to make clear how schools and colleges can get access to the products, which will include environmentally-friendly pads and reusable products such as reusable pads.

David Taylor-Smith, CEO of phs Group, said: “phs is proud to have been awarded the contract to make period products available to all schools and colleges in England. From our own campaign and independent research, we know young people believe access to period products is be a real issue. We firmly believe period products are a necessity, not a luxury, and this is why access to free products at school and college for all pupils is a significant achievement. Doing the right thing is our core ethos at phs; and providing free access for pupils is certainly the right thing to do.”

Children and Families Minister Michelle Donelan said: “Every young person should be able to access help when they need it. That’s why we are making free period products available in all schools and colleges, so no young person has their education disrupted by a lack of access to period products. We will be publishing guidance later this year to help schools and colleges offer these products free of charge to those who need it, free from the fear of stigma or shame.‎"

Mr Taylor-Smith continued: “This initiative isn’t just about what is perceived to be ‘poverty’. Offering access to free products to every pupil creates period equality and stops both periods and access issues getting in the way of a young person’s education.”

The move to supply free period products to schools in England follows similar directives elsewhere in the UK. In April, the Welsh Government announced a £2.3m Period Dignity Grant for Schools to provide free of charge products via local authorities. And last year, the Scottish Government implemented a directive for educational establishments to offer free period products, boosted by an additional £4m of funding to expand the scheme in January.

phs has been working with schools in Wales and Scotland to distribute free period products via its coin-free vending machines for washrooms. For instance, Bryn Bach Primary School, in Tredegar, offers free period products to pupils in partnership with Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council which has rolled out free products to all of its primary and secondary schools.

Head teacher Luisa Munro-Morris said: “The rights of the child underpin our school vision, and consequently we want to ensure all our young people are treated with dignity and respect. The period equity initiative supports us to achieve this vision, as giving our pupils access to period products enables them to manage menstruation without experiencing any shame or stigma.”
